Hospitality Industry Property Risks: Oklahoma Hotel Fire Linked To Water Heater Closet That Spread To Attic; Over $40,000 In Damage

“….(the fire posssibly) started in a water heater closet in one unit and spread to  the attic…Crews are reporting fire damage in two units and smoke damage in the other  six.  The damage is estimated at $40,000 to $50,000…”

One man was taken to the hospital and 10 people lost their place to sleep  after an overnight hotel fire.

Flames broke out around 2 a.m. at Studio 6 Extended Stay Hotel near 41st and  Memorial.

Investigators say the fire is not suspicious. Several people suffered minor smoke inhalation.  One man was transported  to the hospital as a precaution.N

No other injuries were reported.

Hospitality Industry Property Risks: Minnesota Hotel Kitchen "Oil Fryer Fire" Causes $100,000 In Damage

“The oil in the fryer reached its ignition temperature; the employees tried to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher, which was ineffective against the burning oil.”  

A fire in a Pannekoeken restaurant fryer at the Days Inn Hotel in downtown Rochester on Saturday morning caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.  Firefighters were called to the hotel, located at 6 First Ave. N.W., at 6:17 a.m., said Rochester Deputy Fire Chief Steve Belau. Employees had been opening the kitchen for the day, and had started the fryer when the mishap happened.
“After a time the fryer was noted to be boiling excessively (and) efforts by employees to shut down the fryer were unsuccessful,” Belau said.

The built-in fire extinguisher system slowed the fire, but was overcome when the fire became too large, Belau said. When firefighters arrived, there was smoke in the main floor and fire in the exhaust hood area of the kitchen. Fire was coming out of the exhaust vent on the outside.
Firefighters used two large portable fire extinguishers. At first, each time they knocked it down, it came back, Belau said. Also, it was unusually hot and smoky inside the kitchen. “Oil fires are very difficult to extinguish due to the unusually high temperatures associated with them,” he said.

Hospitality Industry Fire Risk: Ohio Hotel Fire Likely Caused By Electrical Problem In Ceiling Area Of Indoor Pool; Damage Exceeds $1 Million

“…The fire originated in the ceiling area of the indoor pool, it was likely an electrical problem, according to the release…”

“…Flames traveled from the overhang above the indoor pool to other walls in the hotel… Winds forced the smoke and fire up to the third floor and fanned the flames…”  

Holiday Inn Express employees stood huddled in thin blankets near Frisch’s Big Boy as firefighters from 10 departments attacked the building with axes and water. Smoke billowed from windows with punched-out screens on the southwest corner of the building at 773 Hebron Road. The three-alarm fire was fueled by a strong wind, up to 30 mph, from the northwest.

Firefighters tore into the building and tossed debris from open windows. Between fire truck sirens, the hotel fire alarm and radio calls of several chiefs, communication was challenging but achieved, Huggins said.

Investigators determined the damage exceeded $1 million, according to the release. Inspectors at the scene said the hotel’s fire alarm system and sprinkler system functioned properly during the blaze, according to the release.

Hospitality Industry Fire Risks: Hawaii Hotel Restaurant Fire Caused By "Gas Leak Behind Oven"; Originally Thought To Have Started In Grease Trap

“…Firefighters originally believed the fire had been started in the oven’s grease trap. However, twenty minutes later the fire reignited… Firefighters then discovered a gas leak behind the oven. Gas service was cut off to the restaurants fed by the line, and the fire extinguished…”

Fire safety officials will return to the Ala Moana Hotel later Wednesday after a fire broke out overnight at the Royal Garden Chinese Restaurant inside the hotel.  When firefighters arrived at the hotel shortly before 2 a.m., they found hotel staff using fire extinguishers to put out flames on the third floor restaurant.A hotel guest told KITV4’s Ryan Kalei Tsuji he was never alerted by a fire alarm.

Hospitality Industry Property Risks: New York Hotel Electrical Panel Overheats Causing Black Smoke And Evacuation Of Guests

“..(the hotel)… will remain closed until an electrical inspection is completed at the hotel…the main electrical panel became too hot, causing black smoke but no fire…”

The Quality Inn, 10 W. Orvis St., and Dar’s Place, which is inside the hotel, were closed after firefighters responded early Monday to a report of smoke originating in the hotel’s electrical room. All power at the hotel was still off as of 5 p.m. Monday, although a generator was providing some lighting.

“It doesn’t look like we’re going to open tonight,” Mr. Stevens said at that time. “There’s still a lot of work to do. What they’re trying to do right now is get the heat turned on in the building.”

When asked if he expected the hotel to open up today, Mr. Stevens replied, “That will depend on what they do tomorrow. There’s a lot of work left to do to get the building up and running.”

Approximately 40 rooms had guests, all of whom were evacuated safely to Emmanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, 39 W. Orvis St. There, guests were served a breakfast courtesy of the church.

Hospitality Industry Property Risks: Missouri Hotel Fire Started By "Overloaded Electrical Cord"; 80-Year Old Building "Still Had Original Wiring"

The fire is believed to be electrical, but Noah said he doesn’t expect to determine the exact cause of the fire because the room “flashed over” during the fire. This can produce heat as high as 930 degrees.

“The building was built in 1927, and it still has the original wiring in the building,” Orgeron said. “We ask them not to, but you can’t be in everyone’s room all the time. People do break the rules.”

The fire at the Missouri Hotel started in the room of a resident who was using multiple electrical appliances, an official said. Fire marshal Philip Noah said a 48-year-old woman in room 221 had a box fan, stereo and cell phone charger plugged into an electrical cord.

Being able to pinpoint it becomes very difficult,” Noah said. “Really it would take an lectrical engineer”.

Hospitality Industry Property Risks: Florida Hotel Fire Possibly Caused By Guest "Manufacturing Drugs"; $35,000 In Property Damage And Contents Loss

 “Heavy fire was coming from the 4th floor southeast corner” when crews began to arrive at the hotel…

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating to determine what caused a 1:00 a.m. hotel fire that resulted in the evacuation of dozens of guests and racked up an estimated $35,000 in property damage and contents loss during the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

First responders launched an immediate search for victims, evacuated guests on adjoining floors, established a water supply and began to attack the flames.

Once extinguished, crews searched for additional fire above, behind and beside the fire room, Aviles said. “Once the fire was extinguished crews left the scene intact for incoming investigators.” According to the fire report, the major damage was confined to the 4th floor hotel room and did not spread.

Sheriff’s representative Chuck Mulligan told reporters this afternoon that the police may have located the occupant of the room, however, details have not yet been confirmed.

Hospitality Industry Fire Risks: Louisiana Hotel's Rooftop "Electrical Room Fire" Extinguished By Sprinkler System; Building Suffers "Significant Water Damage" As Water Seeps "All The Way To Lobby"

“…the sprinkler system (stopped) the spread of the fire. But the building suffered significant damage from water that seeped from the roof all the way into the lobby…”

Officials are investigating the cause of a two-alarm fire on the roof of the Brent House Hotel at Ochsner Medical Center’s Old Jefferson campus that prompted the evacuation of a few hundred employees and hotel guests Thursday afternoon. There were reports of two people who suffered minor smoke inhalation, according to Joe Greco, director of the East Bank Consolidated Fire Department.

Firefighters went to the roof and discovered the source of the smoke was a 20-by-30-foot mechanical room that houses the building’s electrical panels and the elevator motors. Greco said the crew encountered heavy smoke and some flames in the room, but were able to extinguish the fire by 1:32 p.m.

The cause of the fire was still not known Thursday evening. Although there was speculation earlier in the day that the blaze may have started in the motor of one of the elevators, Greco said there was no evidence of that.

Hospitality Industry Fire Damage Risks: Texas Hotel Fire "Contained By Protective Water Sprinkler"

 “…a fire protection sprinkler is what prevented the fire from spreading and causing major fire damage.  A restoration company is currently at the hotel conducting clean up…”

Fire investigation determined the fire was unintentional and caused by food cooking in a microwave. 

A fire that could have turned out to be an inferno was kept contained by a protective water sprinkler after a fire broke out at an apartment on Sunday night.

Temple Fire & Rescue responded to a fire at the Candlewood Suites, 1850 Scott Boulevard.

Firefighters arrived at 7:36 p.m. and found smoke in the hallway on the second floor.  Upon making entry into one of the rooms, they located the fire which was quickly extinguished. The fire was under control by 8:10 p.m.
